Description
Dragon Wood - X-Large Piece (15 to 22 Inches)
Primal Aesthetics: The Rugged Heart of the Aquascape
Dragon Wood is a premium hardscape material renowned for its extremely textured, weathered surface and organic "dragon-scale" ridges. Unlike smoother woods, Dragon Wood offers a rugged and ancient appearance, making it the perfect choice for hobbyists looking to create a wild, untamed aquatic environment.
This X-Large piece, measuring between 15 and 22 inches, is a true specimen-grade centerpiece. Its substantial size and complex geometry provide a massive visual impact, making it suitable for larger aquariums (55 gallons and up) where a single, powerful focal point is desired.
Key Features:
-
Extreme Surface Texture: Deeply furrowed bark and jagged ridges create a high-detail look that mimics the appearance of weathered mountain timber.
-
Monumental Size: Measuring 15" to 22" in length, these pieces provide the necessary height and volume to anchor large-scale displays.
-
Natural Habitat Creation: The numerous nooks and crevices provide excellent hiding spots for small fish, shrimp, and shy bottom-dwellers.
-
Plant-Friendly Geometry: The rough, porous surface is an ideal substrate for mosses, Java Fern, and Bucephalandra to attach their roots.
-
Rich Organic Tones: Features a dark, earthy brown color that deepens underwater, providing a natural contrast against bright green plants.
Aquascaping & Design:
-
Central Masterpiece: Position this X-Large piece in the center or slightly off-center to serve as the structural anchor of your tank.
-
Vertical Integration: Many pieces can be stood upright to create the effect of a massive, ancient tree trunk rising through the water column.
-
Natural Shadowing: The deep ridges create dramatic shadows underwater, adding a sense of mystery and depth to the hardscape.

Preparation & Placement: As with all natural driftwood, Dragon Wood may release tannins into the water, giving it a light tea-colored tint. To minimize this, we recommend soaking the wood in a separate container for several days or boiling it before adding it to your aquarium.
Note: Large driftwood pieces may take some time to become fully waterlogged. You may need to weigh the piece down with rocks or anchor it to the substrate during the initial setup.
Setup Tip: To create a truly cohesive "Dragon" layout, pair this wood with Lifegard Dragon Ohko Rock. The similar textures of the wood and the rock will create a seamless, unified geological and biological aesthetic throughout your tank.
The Dragon Wood Collection: Building a smaller layout or adding detail? We also offer Dragon Wood Large (12"-16") and Dragon Wood 4-6 Piece Packs (4"-8") for layering and fine detail work.
